EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) Number

What Is an EORI Number? A Quick Definition

The EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number is a unique identifier assigned by European Customs authorities that identifies each Economic Operator in its dealings with Customs.

The EORI database is updated regularly.

An invalid SIREN/SIRET number in the INSEE database may result in the EORI being invalidated.If an error occurs in an application, you must verify the validity of the EORI in the EUROPA database.

Practical Considerations and Common Mistakes

To comply with European regulations on the single EORI number, the EORI number based on the SIRET will transition in 2026 to an EORI number based on the SIREN, that is, the legal entity.

Among the most common errors, we note in particular:

  • Entering an invalid EORI number in DELTA IE, resulting in a rejection;
  • The requirement to obtain multiple EORI numbers for customs procedures in different countries, even though a single number is sufficient, for example, for the EU;
  • Logistical delays due to a lack of advance demand.
