What is the EORI number? Quick definition

The EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number is a unique identifier, assigned by European customs authorities, which allows each economic operator to be recognised in its dealings with customs.

Regular updates to the EORI database are carried out.

An invalid SIREN/SIRET in the INSEE database can lead to the invalidation of the EORI. In the event of rejection in an application, it is mandatory to check the validity of the EORI in the EUROPA database.

Practical issues and frequent errors

To comply with European rules on the unique EORI, the EORI number based on the SIRET will evolve during 2026 towards an EORI number based on the SIREN, i.e. the legal entity.

Among the frequently encountered errors, we notably note:
