SAD (Single Administrative Document)

What is a SAD in Customs? A Simple Definition

The SAD was a standard European Union customs form.
It contained all the data needed to declare goods for import, export, and transit.

The SAD has not been eliminated in substance, but it has been digitized and integrated into European Customs IT systems as part of the modernization of the Union Customs Code.

We still refer to SADU out of professional habit, but legally and technically, it is now an electronic Customs declaration in accordance with the UCC.

As of 2025, references to SAD fields have been discontinued and replaced by a data sequencing process using the H1 import Customs Declaration and the B1 Export Declaration as part of DELTA IE.
